Dude didn't even try to see what effect presenting the count's medal might have.
"Longtime best seller." "It's an old design." "The newest model." <- Which one is it, huh? Maybe they should seek out another star system famous for building ships. This one seems too averse to progress. Hiro's flying a sophisticated, ultra modern ship already, so would he like to get an old-fashioned mother ship? The model might have got gradual upgrades, but it's still an old model. It's only so long you can simply keep upgrading an old piece of technology and design philosophy. Furthermore, these folks seem to charge a top enel for it, despite it being an aging design. Normally it would be cheaper if it has been sold for a long time.
Not to mention, I really expected Hiro, being the main character, to actually find the mothership through unusual means. Such as seizing an experimental model from pirates, who possessed one due to believable reasons. Naturally, this would more or less require Hiro not to be looking for a mother ship, as it would be a bit too contrived writing if he immediately found one after starting to plan buying one. Unfortunately it's a done thing that he was planning it, a long time ago. Maybe the count could have suggested an adventure to maybe get his hands on one, through some rumours he had heard. That wouldn't necessarily be too artificial. But what is done is done.
