I mean I get it, the danger acts as some sort of security to deter some unwanted visitors to your safe haven. They were worried that if just anybody can come and go to the island by regular boat, then the risk of poacher or slavery coming to get them is pretty high

I verified it again against the magazine it is published in and it is in the correct order. this mangaka seems to have done a little flashback without using dark pages. When i read it the first time i thought it seemed weird also.

So when i started falling asleep and stopped hearing the machine, i used to wake up in panick because i couldn't hear the machine, wich was obviously still working, but the silence of falling asleep was an unease.

So yes, struggling with something because it's too quiet or too peacefull is not impossible.
