As a general rule, only vain assholes habitually downvote stuff they haven't even read. As a result, genres get rated by the people who read them. (So, for instance, I'm probably not going to read this and rate it myself, because by the description it's a little too saucy for my tastes. Anyone who is reading it is presumed to be down with the implied base-line level of gay smut in the first place.)
I mean, I could also say the same things about a bunch of mindless offensive ecchi male-wish-fulfillment stuff that gets high-ish ratings. Notably, however, if you can be bothered to read the tags and description before biting into something, this effect will not have any detrimental effect for you.
(And yes, everything I'm writing here assumes you're not actually reading the genre that you're trash-talking. If you
have at least been reading a bunch of it before complaining, then good on you. The general rule above still applies, though.)
