Aren't we ignoring the most obvious reason here (at least when we are already assuming there is a second supernatural entity involved? Doesn't Nagi's erratic nature before her death seem suspiciously like possession? If feel like we are even framing it in similar way.

we haven't seen a fuzzy get possessed ye, but maybe nagi's fuzz also isn't natual and comes from possession like kasumi's.
This is my theory too. There seems to be a through line with possessions and becomings. Nagi has a pact with Honami, works really hard to be an idol, and then burns out: like a star. Then Honami becomes Nagi in personality and performance, fulfilling her promise to become idols together with Nagi, and burns out herself. And now Ange is explicitly possessed by Nagi, and trying to destroy Honami who broke her promise by dying, but is burning her out as well. Something is being passed around De:Lphinus like a bad case of mono.

I could be pulling at straws with this one: but is there also a correlation between Tear’s feelings for Nagi being mixed up with her feelings for Ange now that she’s a vessel for Nagi?

This chapter is so good. This manga is good. The time Dorothy took off to plan out season 2 has been so worth it. I loved season 1 of the manga, but by the end I was getting a little bit tired of shift away from the slice of life, comedy, and romance elements of this story. But it really feels like since the series has picked back up it's found a way, somehow, to put every element I like in every chapter. Every single chapter has comedy, has slice of life, has hints towards the mystery, has horror, has dramatic tone shifts, has amazing characterization. It's honestly so good that I haven't known what to say about each chapter.

As for this chapter in particular, the mix of comedy and warmth and dread knowing what's inevitably going to happen is wonderful, and the rapid downturn towards the end paired with the ghost on the final page gave me the strongest scare I've ever experienced from this manga. Dorthy is such a good writer.

Thank you for the TL!

Because it's clear now DeLphi's haunting didn't start with DeLphi; it wasn't that Nagi died abruptly and her regrets turned her into a vengeful spirit. It started with Nagi bringing something in, something that at least wanted Honami too.
I want to reiterate my highly improbable baseless speculation from the end of volume 5 that Michi and Nagi are sisters and their mysterious ghost, ghost-seeing, mom is somehow the root of all this.

Though something hasn't sat right with me since ch33, and it's not until now I realized what: Tear discovered Aizawa's body.

I'd been taking something else for granted: that Honami died at the Obon festival. The timeline added up with the announcement of her death being right around Obon. But that doesn't make sense if Tear discovered her. After all, Tear doesn't recognize Michi. Whatever happened at the festival, either Honami survived it, Honami wasn't there, or Honami was already dead. What happened up that mountain if Honami didn't die yet? Who was the other girl Michi went with if not Honami? Was Honami already a ghost? I don't think those last 2 are likely considering Michi dressed up like it was a special occasion. It's just something to make note of. This "answer half" is only going to raise more questions for now with every new answer, as our understanding of past events shifts.
I don't think Tear discovering the body is necessarily enough to write off Aizawa dying at the Obon festival, especially given how much mysterious build up it's had. Here's some ideas for how Aizawa dying at the festival with Michi but Tear still discovering the body could work:
  1. If Michi's memory loss was triggered by seeing Aizawa die, or whatever ghost-related stuff happened that caused Aizawa to die, then it should still be possible that Michi left without remembering that Aizawa died.
  2. Tear was coming to meet Aizawa right as she died, and Michi didn't want to be seen alone with a dead body.
  3. Michi came up with some sort of spur of the moment plan after Aizawa died for dealing with Nagi, and that plan involved someone from DeLphi discovering Aizawa's body.

My current running theory is that something else has been possessing with a grudge against De:lphinus. First it went after Nagi, the one who could see it or who just got possessed so much she got the fuzzy eyes. With her gone, it then went after Aizawa, my thought was it used Michi to kill Aizawa, which left Michi with no memory of what happened, and she likely ran away or was brought elsewhere meaning Tear found Aizawa. Then whatever it is at the concert. Because the time we last saw Nagi's ghost, she was in a normal human form. So maybe Nagi is trying to protect who is left from whatever killed her and Aizawa, but is struggling to keep up? Especially since in chapter 30 it ends with the comment that Aizawa's death must have hit Nagi the hardest which doesn't really mesh with the rest of the perceived timeline. And we see human ghost Nagi at the end of that chapter. So I am not sure, maybe Tear's mother is haunting her and ruining her bands and killing her friends but leaving her alone. Though that would be weird. I don't know, I really need to reread the entire series but at this point I feel like some crack theory is more on track than what is presented...

That comment comes from Masaki who doesn't know what happend to Nagi. I think it's meant to evoke a sense of dramatic irony.

You're right and I may have blindly written the possibility off. But there's a few things that trip me up with that explanation. On a meta level, this flashback wants to raise questions but I don't think it wants to confuse with if we're even seeing Nagi. It's her full reveal after all. And it doesn't seem she was physically suffering like other possession victims have. The group wouldn't have agreed to give her space if there were more to Nagi's decline than her attitude shifting, and any health issues should have been attributed to her cause of death beyond a simple fall.

I've been thinking back to this page before the concert. How it's certainly Nagi speaking through Ange. Here Nagi puts emphasis on how raw Non is. Not just that she's a brat, but that she gets away with being her honest self all the time. She resents that Non gets to live so immaturely. If we assume this is representative of living Nagi, that she was burying similar feelings behind a fake angelic smile, then she must have been hiding a lot.

So maybe her abrupt shift in character was simply issues pushing her over the edge and being unable to fake it anymore. And with how close she was to Honami, Honami became Nagi's primary outlet due to being similarly immature. Maybe Nagi even finds death just as liberating as Honami does (being her silly self at school) but in the opposite direction. I'm not calling Nagi evil (I already did that last recap) just that she might truly have a dark side like how many characters in this manga have hidden sides waiting to be seen.

Nagi did have the ghost seeing eyes from her earliest chronological appearance. It's unclear exactly how long ago DeLphi debuted/Nagi died but auditions were 2 years ago according to their ages at the start here. So while Nagi might have gotten her vision from trauma, if her change in attitude came much later it's hard attributing both to the same possession. Not impossible, but hard. And unless she's still possessed as a ghost (which I have seen done before and is neat to think about) the simple explanation is she's losing control like Honami does when stressed and showing sides of herself that might even scare her.

I dunno I've been known to get stuck on the wrong trail before. It's why I like seeing what everyone comes up with untangling the plot.

I want to reiterate my highly improbable baseless speculation from the end of volume 5 that Michi and Nagi are sisters and their mysterious ghost, ghost-seeing, mom is somehow the root of all this.

I try not to cry wolf every chapter but I'm always waiting to see how Michi's mom fits into this. Her intro was so out of left field and yet it feels increasingly like DeLphi was hit by something unrelated to the group yet related to Nagi. Something to fill in that intangible dread that's been loosely binding the idol and unexplored spiritualist sides of the story together since before we even knew Nagi beyond "that ghost haunting DeLphi."

There's such a temptation with an amnesiac protagonist to tie their past into every new character (I certainly tried with Masaki) but it wouldn't surprise me if Michi's connection to Honami runs deep enough to reach Nagi. Either way their inevitable meeting's going to be eventful.

As for Tear finding Honami at the festival, it's true it can be justified. I'm confident next chapter will cover more of Honami's death than we saw of Nagi's so we'll have to wait and see. It's what prompted this flashback after all, and what might give Michi clues for the next step of investigating.

Man these girls can't catch a break. I'm having troubles believing the remaining members of De:LPhinus will have a happy ending. They really seem like catalysts for this mangas supernatural shenanigans... Certainly more so than Michi herself...
Though we still don't have any confirmations about the nature of Michi's past relation to the memers of De:LPhi do we? I hope this is what we'll get into next, if this flashback isn't over.

(What's with the nips and breaking names with ":" after the first two letters? Does anyone know?)

Nagi already have fuzzy irises since even before that, look at page 8
Could this suggest that nagi was one who could originally see ghosts. That she died in place of honami.

The being trying to kill them might not be nagi's ghost, it might be someone else who wants to kill them all. Could even be tear's mother

Non knows that Michi and Aizawa were friends but doesn't seem to personally know Michi, and Tear doesn't seem to know or recognize Michi. The only ones we don't know about are Ange and Nagi.

What if Nagi started fighting with Honami because she had a crush on her that wasn't reciprocated? On pages 13 Nagi is shown being "cutesy" directly towards Aizawa while the rest are "cutesy" towards the audience. Then there's the next page where it lingers on an intimate panel of them studying. And of course there's the way she talks about how it's both her and Honami's dream to become idols. This manga has a lot of inconspicuous panels that hint at something deeper, so I don't think this is a reach.

Aizawa rejecting her for one reason or another would explain their fights, and might imply that she met the same fate as Tear's mom. This might be why Aizawa felt so guilty that she was seemingly fine with Nagi possessing her despite the health consequences. This theory would also get rid of the need for inventing some bigger bad to explain the group's misfortunes. Some unknown ghost killing Nagi would be kinda boring and out of left field, even if it was somehow Michi's mom.

For all we know, it was Michi getting close with Honami that originally got Nagi upset when she was still alive. Honami only died about a semester into their first year of high-school, which isn't that much time for the two to get so attached. This would also explain why the amnesia seems to extend into Michi's time in middle school. Regardless of when Michi met Aizawa, Nagi's jealousy over their relationship is probably what made her kill her childhood friend.

Isn't that exactly what page 26 was implying?

Maybe I'm misunderstanding what you're saying here, but I don't understand why you think so. The fall seemed pretty violent (down a flight of stairs?) Why would they attribute a decline in general health to the death if her head was caved in from blunt force trauma?

Honami... Even in the past, her role is still as background character, Even thou in cover art her visual is bigger than main character and others. It's like the games named mortal kombat. The cover always scorpion but mc is liu kang and Johnny cage. Lol.

Out of 10, 7 think because of nagi. 2 think not different.... How about the last one? Guess that one didn't care. Lol.

There are a lot of health conditions that could cause someone to fall down the stairs (whether due to loss of coordination, loss of consciousness, inability to stay upright, etc) that, if they were part of an ongoing and visible worsening of someone's physical health, would probably get the incident attributed to instead of simply waving off the cause of death as "only a slip and fall."

I'm gonna spitball my own theory here.

Personally I think it wasn't Nagi but rather Aizawa that was being possessed before Nagi died, and Nagi who has the eyes for seeing ghosts even by Page 6, confronted her/the ghost which led to the fights and stuff, and a result of one of these fights was Nagi's death, at the hands of what she could easily assume to be Aizawa herself, if she's like Sayaka and doesn't comprehend that they're ghosts.

Edit: Looking back at the other comments I buy into the "jealous crush" theory a lot more than my own above, regardless everything else is the same

After she dies however, Nagi herself starts possessing Aizawa, the immediate sudden 180 of personality that Aizawa does I just don't think could possibly be natural, plus the addition of the line "let's be idols together" and Nagi smiling exactly the same behind her on page 38, I mean the signs are there. (Also on the previous page, the line saying she's the same old Aizawa is in the panel of her collapsed on the floor)

We know that Aizawa died slowly, at the same time Ange is slowly dying from the side effects of possession, I think that Nagi through possessing Aizawa, knowingly or not, is the cause of Aizawa's death. Really it could be anything from innocuous "let's be idols together forever" to a targeted possibly ill-placed revenge from the other side.

The main questions that remain are why does Nagi hate Non so much? how does Michi fit into all this? and who the FUCK is Mini Michi??
