Like I can theoretically see that angle but it'd be convoluted imo and not really satisfactory. They definitely weren't nice to him at all and shouldn't just be given a moral clean chit immediately with that. It's part of the reason my boy's self-esteem is so low in the first place, even so many years later

edit: I wouldn't mind them eventually getting redeemed though! Just not immediately and it should be with some development and distaste for their previous actions

Being redeemed through their actions and reflection on what they did is fine. Though with how papa mikadono has been treated I'm a little worried they will say "we knew you weren't getting any better and it was tough for you so we were just trying to get you to do something you were good at" and all will be forgiven.
