I kinda wish they spend more time explaining the guy's backstory and heritage. I get it's something more "youkai/spirit", but I need something more to sink my teeth into.

It's like that made up character that Nozaki created (ie the alien from outerspace who's only special trait is that he's popular). And my response is the same as Nozaki's editor:

"Why not just make him human?"

That's one thing that's kind of stopped me from enjoying this series more. The whole beast/youkai/spirit thing is hardly used or brought up. It was used to give them a "special connection," to have an excuse to have Mashiro go to their school, and create some drama with the photography club but otherwise it's always felt out of place. They just as easily could've just been foreigners or from the country and very little would change.

@ilikepi31415 no, it would be a different story if they’re just foreigners. Iirc hakuya used half of his life to save kobeni. If he’s just a human, kobeni would probably be dead.

That "used half his life" plot has hardly ever come up since the first couple volumes and the author has even stopped drawing Hakuya's scar

Finally someone else noticed that author forgot all about Hakuya scar over his eye, it was supposed to have big impact on Kobeni, but now it looks like it was just thursday for them, like come on author don't do that to us.
