a cruel but fitting ending. im happy for yujin and yukko being happy and fulfilled in future, same with chiri and the professor. but the fact all we saw of mikane (not even a finale oneesan appearance either) is his hand, leaves bad feeling in my guts.
Authors will introduce age gaps and run from ever having to show anything with them. It's always a weird choice. I expected him to find a way to avoid showing them together, so no surprises. Always makes me wonder why set things up that way in the first place.

just makes me feel even more melancholy that thats probably their first "interaction" in a long time, maybe even since mikane turned :meguuusad:

i get we cant always have perfect happy endings where everyone still together but damn did i want one

I'm happy because Yukko is happy.

Not seeing Mikane nor the Sea Woman in this Epilogue is actually kinda fitting.
True, because it feels like they really detached themselves from the rest of the world...but at the same time would have felt fine to see them to see how they are doing. With this ending everything is up in the air...if they are doing fine, if they are still together, if the monster is still with them or if he moved on, whatever

Not happy because Yukko is still hung up on Mikane and he doesn't deserve her. And Yujin is too good of a guy to get done like that.
This just feels like the author was trying to put of a "big message" about moving on or growing out of a small town but couldn't quite pull it off. (I think it was a story of Mikane falling in love/infatuation with a single mother. Dealing with her and her kid.) Also just never addressing the carnivores.

But, Happy for Chi-chan finally deciding to stop giving the Prof a choice in the matter of he gets to be happy or not. She hate his dad so this is like daddy-issues-ception but w/e. Plus more Mai-chan & Rei-kun.

So I'd give this a B- as a final chapter - we get more than just the textual wrap up at the wedding, get to see Yuukko's relationship progress, her family's restaurant continue. But the title character's wrap up completely left out.

But the whole ending is like a C-, maybe a D.

Started interesting but became pretty mid, Mikane is an awful protagonist, good thing he dont even show up at the ending
