I feel like the prince should have already admitted to himself he was wrong, given what we saw of him the last few times. I think this is just to solidify it in his mind and he's putting on a brave face.
nah, he needs an ass whooping

No matter how good or bad this is dealt with, never forget that MC was braindead for years before story started and abandoned his friends to do "work" that nobody expected of him that gained him nothing because author bullshit reasons.
Uhm. Nah dude. Not how it was.

The thing is that MC was under orders straight from the King himself. As the court magician, his job was to support the Prince in gaining achievements through dungeon crawls. There was no way for him to reasonably back out until the Prince fired him.

I mean, look at how the Prince was behaving. And then at what the King says to him. It's obvious that in this setting, that King's power is absolute. You do what he says or else you'll be penalized. Fortunately for him, he's foreseen what will become of his country (Read: Him) if it continues on like this. So now he's calling for reforms...

Though that seems too little too late, judging by the Prince's behavior.

Besides, I'm pretty sure the MC had another reason for sticking it out. In the first chapter, he mentions something about proving it to "that person". (And I'm pretty sure "that person" wasn't the Prince.)

Not sure if this story will go with the trope of the Prince being magically "reformed" after the MC beats him, or the Prince stays a scumbag and tries to get revenge later at some other junction.

Could go the middle-ground, where the Prince is then put on house arrest or something or other, and begrudgingly acknowledges the MC but is still hard-headed.

No, I remember it was because MC had some teacher that had worked for the kingdom before or some shit and MC wanted to follow up on that even though teacher never wanted him to... It's been a long time though so maybe I'm remembering wrong.

There was no order from the king anyways.

Honestly when the prince is still this young and THIS much of a spoiled brat throwing a temper tantrum at the very thought of listening to others, I feel like more fault lies in his parents, the people charged with his education, and to an extent the MC. Like at a certain point you just need to tell a kid no, sit them down, and sternly explain why their entire manner of thinking is wrong or if that doesn’t work put them on their ass and beat humility into them. Either way it shouldn’t get to this point.

I could even see a plot line about how some evil advisor had taken advantage of and was using the prince for his own gain at this rate with how immature his thinking is and easy he is to manipulate.
Thats kinda the problem when dealing with royalty, usually when teachers are dealing with students teachers are in the higher position usually a combination of status, knowledge, wealth, etc. well basically being higher up in the chain than the students and have the authority to discipline them as necessary.

With royalty though? The power balanced is flipped and the student has higher status than the teacher so the teacher can only teach when the student is willing to listen unless the teacher is given the authority to discipline them as necessary. But even then it might not work as the teacher might be trying to kiss ass (to get money, promotions, etc. or maybe so they don't get fired) or the princeling or princess refuse to acknoledge their authority as in their mind their true "superior" are their parents... who are usually very busy with state affairs

After all... just how many people who think they are superior, who think they are in the right are willing to actually sit down and listen to those they deem "inferior"?

He got money? That was his goal? The impression I got is he basically has enough money to live comfortably now.
