movie critics have no idea how to do their jobs. if the critics hate the movie, then it's good. if the critics love the movie, then it's horrible.
Too often critics are either 2deep4you hipsters or judge based on artistic value/message/other crap only, completely ignoring entertainment value.
Not talking about movies only.

This was "In the Heart of the Sea" for me. I left the theaters thinking "that was one of the best movies I've seen in a long time!"
Checked reviews: "WHY MOBY DICK BUT NO WHALE!?"
Me: "Because it's not Moby Dick you dense motherf-"

Edit:
Also "The Grey" with Liam Neeson. So many people missed the whole "purgatory" angle and thought they were portraying real wolves as man eating monsters.

early cinema minds can't comprehend short form content and adhd-focused entertainment value

Bro, the first Alien and Predator Movies were basically following the same slow burning rythm and I loved every second of both of them !! So, I slightly doubt that's the reason, honestly...

People tend to forget critics do NOT have any sort of recognized credentials to call themselves experts at evaluating a movie.

Literally my opinion of Jaws !! Good thing Netflix allowed me to watch on x1,5 or I swear, I would have fell asleep before the end of the first act...

Seriously, I was expecting tension and grandiose but instead, I got three guys getting drunk on a boat-trip and maybe 10 minutes max of actual action at the beginning and end !!

And to think that's the movie who started the Summer Blockbusters Trend...

On Halloween I wanted to do a Friday the 13th marathon. I forgot how incredibly boring and slow that movie was. When we got to the Strip Monopoly scene, I checked my watch because it felt like 2 hours had passed.

And somehow this led to over 10 movies.

very rare for the trendstarter to top the list of the trend itself in the eyes of future generations when it's inventing new ways to do things. By the time someone seeing Jaws for the first time in the 2020s sees it, they'll have seen a hundred iterations on it that, individually, were not as great a leap in cinema, but by standing on the shoulders of giants are so far beyond Jaws that it's just... boring in comparison.

Critic reviews are usually the opposite of what the movie is. Unless they and the audience are in agreement tbh.
One of my favorite critics seemed like he factored audience expectations into his scores. So while a stupid stoner comedy or a formulaic rom-com would never get a 5/5, they could very well be in the running for a 4/5 if they did a good job of delivering on the trailer's promise.

Nobody expects Transformers 8: The Time Loop Reboot Hook to win any Oscars, but "It's a 10/10 compared to every other movie that'll keep your nephew occupied for 2 hours" is genuinely useful information.

Nah but, Rise of Skywalker having a 99% (86% now) audience score is actually criminal
