Fun fact: Apparently, cats do this sort of thing because they're very light sleepers.

Cats sleep on average 12-16 hours per day, but all in very light naps, throughout the day. The only time a cat goes into a deep sleep is when they're injured or sick, and need the extra rest to recuperate.

So when a human who they see as part of their pack goes into a deep sleep, it makes them really worried, and they yell to make sure you're okay.

There IS in fact a correct response here. Pull the cat in close besides yourself.

Three things might happen.
1) Cat just stays. Ends up napping too. Everybody wins.
2) Cat FLEES. Get up and close the door to the bedroom (if you're not napping in a dead-end room, go do that if you want to keep napping).
3) Cat attempts to fight. Shrimply pick up cat genlty, bring outside the room and continue as if it was possibility 2.

You’re obviously supposed to lie beside it and stuff your whole face in its fluff. That’s what I do with my kitten when he does that. It’s not long before it become too hot for him to bear, and I stuffed my face into fluffy kitten hair, so its a win-win situation, except both wins are for me.
