I don't think it's particularly unheard of for kids being sent off to relatives cause some guy likes a mom but doesn't like the idea of her kids. Especially since the mom seems pretty young, so the boyfriend's probably the same.

But yeah, I guess she did know the story of the mermaid, the fact you never see her with open eyes seemingly does beg the question.

I mean that's probably a good point. I guess they wanted to try to lay low rather than having kids in their house i guess? It's interesting that the horror urban legends were handed over generation to generation and how she didn't really open her eyes while talking about the legends.
