Video Girl Ai from the early 90s is simply superior in every way. For one, it made you conflicted in who to root for between the 4 main characters who are involved in a weird love quadrangle, but you also cannot bring yourself to dislike any of them, which makes all the drama even more poignant. I wonder if the author of this manga was inspired by Video Girl Ai and wanted to make her own take on a similar premise (even her art style here is a little similar to Katsuura's). My personal opinion is she didn't really do a stellar job in the writing department, despite the great art work. Like others have said the beginning did great in drawing you in but somehow the manga became worse and worse right up until the end, as if Miyazaki ran out of ideas halfway in and decided to just do whatever.
