I was content with this first block of chapters being focused on character building before we got to the actual meat, but the little tidbit about being assigned a role at birth raises a lot of interesting questions.

Have there been past protagonists and heroines, or are people just collectively conditioned to accept these assigned roles without question for whatever reason? How do these people know their assigned roles? Who or what assigned them these roles?

I hope these are followed up on at least a little, and these aren't just going to continue being breadcrumbs sprinkled around for flavor, hinting at a cool idea without being brave enough to explore it.
