Part of the reason France consumes so much manga is that Francophone countries have sizable home industries making them, allowing a lot of people to read non-Japanese manga. Gateway drug, and all that.

This chapter was a bit of a Japan-fap. I think the reason Americans eat Japanese food at all is the reason we eat any food: we like it so damn much. Healthy doesn't matter; there are plenty of healthy American foods. Besides, a lot of Americans (wrongly) believe MSG to be unhealthy and it's commonly used in Japanese cooking.

Wew, I was ready to count the stereotypes and mistakes, but, the representation ended up being pretty close to the real thing. I'm surprised.

I was literally like, agreeing with the French family on how they were living their habits and things.

As other french people here, rather pleasantly surprised on the representation of my countrymen here. It's not that far off.
As for the kiss on the cheek, it may not be fully the case anymore, but just some years ago, men and women would greet each other like this without even thinking, even at work. It's so unconscious that people would do that without thinking even in another country (my wife did that absently to her friend's husband in India one time, even though she perfectly knows that this is not at all the habit there, just like in Japan. And I did the same to an american ). So I can totally picture that scene happening in real life.
