She did introduce herself in the first chapter so it is kinda clear that she actually got the wrong guy. Probably.

Or dude might have enough self preservation to not want anything to do with a girl who seems like the kind of clingy, jealous girl who will smash up your car in retaliation for talking to another woman or do other unhinged shit.
She introduced herself as "his childhood friend". She didn't actually identify herself.

Ikr? Like I know smartphones and LINE might not be the norm back then, but there's still e-mail and landline telephones, or the good old-fashioned handwritten letters. HOW HAVE THEY NOT EXCHANGED ANY SORT OF CONTACT INFORMATION BEFORE SEPARATING?!
we need to have a chapter of her 'bumping into' his parents at the supermarket or some other classmate or so like "Oh i totally remember you" (tho she said she moved around a lot? maybe it was a diff person this whole time. if anything she needs to do 'research' on his current life to see if he's worth it [tho the bio does call him the 'protag' so i imagine it'll work out for them in the end if not him going 'well, why not' and 'giving in' and ending up in a life of pampered/luxury])

Last panel is the problem I have with a lot of childhood friend stories
If the author (and audience) were millenials, we didn't have much choice. I had a similar "moving out" in the early 00's. No phone, no social media (way before Myspace era), no way to travel back. You'll inevitbaly lose contact that way without some big efforts from your and their parents.

why have they not presented themselves already? Just saying your name would already clear most of the problem.
That was ch. 1. MC either doesn't remember, has amnesia, or is literally the wrong guy (but the author seems to suggest it's him).

Makes me wonder if gen z/alpha has like, the 'opposite' problem of like ppl you wanna cut off but they'd take it personally if you unfollowed/blocked them or so, or moving away and still being found on FB or Insta (which i think is prolly less ideal to put your real name on but i've seen some teenagers basically use a shortened ver of their names on those types of accounts), versus like "oh i changed my phone and lost the numbers" or so (although other than being really close and willing to do long distance calls and discord chats every weekend or so i guess a friend physically moving away would probably end up growing apart or so if you aren't able to meet in person versus being used to like, having internet friends)

She said "I'm your childhood Friend Hinami" She did identify herself.

i wonder if the misunderstanding/issue is that he only knew her by a diff name lol. Tho there IS a comedy tag so i guess this is under the assumption it'll work out in the long run as opposed to a spoiler-y tag like tragedy

If they were supposedly friends for a few years and even made some promise when they parted, there's no way the dude, still in his early 20's, wouldn't remember her. Unless he has suffered brain trauma, which affected his memories. So, either Hinami found the wrong person, or most of their friendship in the past is only a product of Hinami's imagination, or the dude has suffered brain damage or is lying. That's about it.

2000 was not as ancient and cut off as you seem to recall. And Myspace was launched in 2003 and was the largest social networking site in the world from 2005 to 2009.
AOL had about 3,000,000 active users by 1995. The AIM instant messenger

was quite popular in the late 1990s. Competitors were ICQ (acquired by AOL in 1998), Yahoo! Messenger, and MSN Messenger.

(1000 hours free for 45 days is kinda funny since there are only 1080 hours in 45 days.)

AOL | Nostalgasm

CompuServe was even earlier. It was taken over by AOL in 1997 though. I had an account there long before that and used software which downloaded forum messaged in bulk for offline reading and replying. Replies where uploaded in bulk. This saved money because you were billed based on time connected.

I'm a late millennial, so it pretty much is a solid cutoff. I do remember AOL. I also remember there being one family computer that too 2 minutes to connect on dial up, and needing to get off when my parents needed to make a phone Call. As a 10 year old in those times, you don't get much priority.

3M is a lot, but not prolific enough to expect every fellow 4th/5th grader to all have Aim accounts. That happened more around the mid 2000's in my middle school year by the MySpace era.

Yes. It was a bit too late for me by that time. I moved around age 10/11 and it woulda been 2001. I guess it was just an awkward time, older than the latest millennial/early gen Z that would grow up completely with social media, younger than older Millenials that might have had the saavy to do the AOL/AIM route.
