Honestly, that makes the most sense. If not immortality, she must of wanted him as a sacrifice for some sort of power for her son. After that unintentional rampage, Fuzuki probably thought of himself better off dead and forgotten which would explained why he might've lied

This manga has been extremely cliched so far, that's or the variation of it is exactly what happened. After all. Fuzuki and an "omnyoji" entered the shrine together. And then we get his stepmother just casually lying around.
