one of the main things that gets tiresome in chinese series isn't just the cliche villains but it's the dialogue. Like do they not hear themselves and realize the situation they're in.

"tch it's just x, he can't do anything to me" >proceeds to get his ass handed to him every time

@Hamin It's the sheer absurdity of it all lol

Here's a well-kept top secret piece of information that no one is privy to, and the one who knows it seems to be stronger than anyone else in the vicinity besides the sister

"He's just a kid that knows too much!"

Ionno, my first thought would've been "this guy's the Champion of another clan/guild/whatever", not "heh he's just a know-it-all!"

The beauty of the Chinese is their simplistic tropes. All the bad guys are the same, family above all else, YOU ARE COURTING DEATH.
Oh, and little sisters always get their brother into trouble.

Other trope options in this instance could be the MC inexplicably accepting the antagonists surrender and becoming life long friends with the antagonist. Or the antagonist seeing that he can't beat the MC, surrendering while sneakily preparing a knife or poison or whatever to kill the MC, but MC sees through it and kills him immediately.

"That's just, like, your opinion, man."
In all honesty, every martial arts story is like this. Its simplistic because it doesn't bother adding drama or big reveals when the story is about the protagonist and his accent into greatness. Villains are always arrogant, subordinates are always cocky, family above all else- both sides of the coin, YOU ARE COURTING DEATH.

Was there a big time skip in the last few chapters? There are now organizations and terminology from the future but it doesn't seem like much time has passed.

um, star martial god among others is not like that. It has many of those overarching tropes you mentioned but it executes them far better and has depth. Tales of demons and gods too. The villains in both can be simple minded and evil just for evils sake but it's all about the execution.

Both of them are exactly the same as this one, if you get right down to it. Sure, maybe the writing is better- or worse- but no matter how much you polish or detail a trope, it's still the same.
And tropes have nothing to do with writing, they're just stereotypes.

Take SMG, the arc they are in right now is defending Blue Carp Town and the kid with a tattoo on his back. He wont give up the kid for an easy out; family comes first. First army guy comes up, "better do what I say"; subordinate's cocky. Gets told no and threated off, brings in boss, same deal. War starts, 10k of the villain force is gone, boss won't give in or up, he's arrogant.
Get what I mean?
