Good ol' Patlabor! Actually, I'm really only familiar with the anime--the TV show and OVAs. But it was a great show. Early episodes were great silly comedy, later episodes were sometimes great comedy, sometimes great drama, sometimes great characterization, sometimes all three. It had a nice ensemble cast, some striking characters, some that you came to appreciate more gradually. Some of the stuff was filleri-ish, but when it was "on" it was a work of genius. It's the only anime with giant robots I ever really liked. I'm pleased to see the manga version getting some love.
