Re-reading Ch.1 makes me wonder even more on how did we get from long-term/generational exploration ship preparation, internal politics, and terrorism to "Four years later, Earth has been eradicated by aliens. Humanity is facing extinction or at least one hellaluva of a genetic bottleneck event, and MMC may or may not have knocked up FMC"
