It would certainly be interesting if this manga were to touch on Chan. Who was Amuro's girlfriend who died in CCA? How did they meet? What clicked in between them?

I'm guessing in Chan's case, by that time, Amuro had already realized that he should start moving on from Lalah. So even if they weren't equal, he'd try to make it work with Chan.

I'm part of the idea that the main difference between Amuro and Char in CCA and why they opposed each other is that Amuro somehow finally allowed himself to move on from Lalah while Char had not. Thus, Char's memeable last words.

I think Chan does have some newtype abilities. Remember that when Chan died, she became one with the small cross psychoframe and helped guiding Amuro around Axis. She also helped Amuro generate the Axis shock and guide it away from Earth in the end.
