I wonder if the microwave caused her growth because she stood too close too many times?

Man, I haven't heard of keeping back from microwaves for decades. Modern ones these days can even cook with all sorts of metal containers or what-have-you.

What kind of microwaves are they using that its not safe to be near them.

The safety warning isn't for microwave radiation, it's to ensure if something were to explode you aren't too close and get hit by shrapnel from the glass possibly blowing out. Microwave radiation is non-ionizing, it won't actually hurt you beyond slowly (and I mean you would have to stay in it for quite a while) cooking you which is how it heats up the food you put inside of it.

In short, you won't get cancer or a tumor from microwaves but you might turn into a human hotdog if you blast yourself with it for like over an hour.

What type are you talking about? I still to this day have never even heard whispers of microwaves being able to have metal in them.

As long the metal has no pointy bits (that's a technical term) and doesn't touch the metal enclosure it's generally fine.

I've had a plate with a decorative gold-leaf ring on it and it arced so hard the microwave shut down. And that was less then 2 years old, so I don't know where these are available for public purchase.
