Actually makes me think about how I treat my items in my every day life, specifically one of the chairs I owned. Like this chapter, I owned a chair I had for a pretty long time. It’d do its job supplementing my buttocks in great comfort. Sadly its age would show and it would eventually begin to grow weaker. Interesting enough, just like this chapter, its leg eventually broke as I sat down on it. No longer would it meet my standards in comfort. It was a broken mess and no longer the thing I loved it for. Most would throw it away in that hideous sight, but not me. I got tape and decided to try to fix it. I was not gonna forget the moments it helped me and provided me with that nostalgic comfort. I had a connection with it that could NOT be severed. With great skill and precision, I was able to attach the leg back. A tear nearly fell out my eye but I was able to catch it. Now, why would I bring this story up? Why would this chapter make me think how I treat my everyday items? It’s because of the ending of the chapter. The last box. We see her still throw the. Chair away. Why would she do that? I might have a answer to that.

After fixing up my chair I was pretty proud of myself. I saw the beauty of the chair. I was able to appreciate the craftsmanship of the art of making chairs. The benefits it brought to humanity and the generations to come. But something disturbed my mind. I’ve always been a superficial guy. I’ve never showed any depth of character or understanding. When I looked at the chair, I saw life for the first time. The chair asked to be put to rest. It asked for slumber. It asked for the end. I was shocked to say the least. Why? Why would it want to be put to the end? Who would want that? Then I realized why. All those years of serving has weighed heavy on the item. The item could only want rest after that. It’s normal. Nobody wants to serve someone else. This comes back to the chapter because our main character recognized that. Before sending the chair off she fixed the chair up. She then put it in the trash so that the chair could finally be put to rest. No longer serving anyone. They would be put to rest for all of eternity with only their dreams to keep them life.

In conclusion, I think I understand the purpose of the chapter. I appreciate the chapter a lot because it reminded me of how I treat the items around me and I’m glad the author was able to illustrate it in a respectful manner.

Thanks for translating!
