I know, theoretically, the right way to load a matchlock, and since that’s just internet research for a book I never even took past early plot outlines and even the, I decided to stick to cap and ball and flintlock I don’t have confidence I would get a shot off on the first try, let alone have any accuracy.
I don’t even know the muzzle velocity for a given amount of powder, or how much is the max safe amount to use.
By the time flintlocks were a thing soldiers used pre-measured rounds with the ball and powder in tissue paper and just had to pack them, so that was my choice when writing. well, thinking about writing… I’m not great at fiction.
