@Siti Yes. In Japan there are vending machines everywhere, especially in tourist areas. The hiking trails on Mt. Fuji have small shelters or cabins with vending machines. They're required to be there precisely for hiking emergencies. Unlike regular vending machines, these are filled with mineral water, tea, pocari, coffee, and sometimes bean and corn soup, no sodas. They can dispense both cold and hot drinks. A lifesaver for hikers.
When you think about it, it makes more sense to place vending machines up there compared to running an outpost that has to be manned.
