that guy was kinda pitiful in the end.
the guy was rescued by the woman who killed his entire tribe and never bore any hatred for her because he saw her as his mother
his entire fight was so she could finally be at ease, if she killed him it would mean she finally got over her traume and if he won she would be free from her immortality which was causing her suffering

rakshasha was the better character

Nah, don't forget Harpo killed his entire clan because they were a bunch of crazy murderers who stole life force from others. She let him live and raised him is mercy as is, how he came back and tried to kill her is just ungrateful.

Harpo is suffering because of immortality, yes, but not enough to want suicide on her own. That Rakshasa came back to kill her to steal her immortality for his own gain, not for kindness at all.

I like Harpo but not Rakshasa, I can somehow understand Harpo but Rakshasa is just an ungrateful bastard who uttered some beautiful words in his final moment for me.

One liner response aside.
Why introduce a conflict where the root of it all could have been solved by cooperation? Yes the tribesmen were stealing life from other races in an attempt to attain immortality, an idea that solely exists because of bird lady's existence. Instead of becoming their leader doing a whole ass benevolent God donating her endless lifespan to a race she could've led she does genocide. Raises a kid who wanted to give life more than take it, dumpsters him by revealing herself to be his IDF, and instead of being a mother nurturing his desire to give life by supplying her endless lifespan to his whims somehow redeeming the genocide angle in a stupid way. She kills him and truly finishes her genocide. Why would I ever come to think of this character as anything good? Ah right, T and A.

God forbid both of our protagonists and villains be multi-layered and full of hypocritical and complex thoughts and feelings. Even in death the Rakshasa wanted his mother to be full of energy, a shame it was twisted in such a horrible way. There was no easy answer for this situation. I think it was a good arc considering everything the led up to it. Even the bit with with Haru wanting Shiro works as a lonely immortal wanting to be with someone close to their level. I really like Harpocratem.

What a great conclusion to the arc and what a cool ass way to twist the reason Rakshasha was chasing the scent of death.

A surprising amount of depth put into a character introduced so recently for this arc. Perhaps Rakshasha wanted for his mother to be happy and to overcome the regret of her exterminating his family and for her to live with vitality after she had grown tired, perhaps he felt regret for not being able to join his own family passing on, but either way he succeeded in the end, he really did obtain it all.

Yeah, and wasn't Rakshasa going around murdering (probably) innocent people to steal their life force? I feel sympathy for his kid self but not the monster he turned into.
