Is Haru's comment about "Burst Bubbles not sounding familiar to our generation" sarcastic, or is it meant to be "sounds familiar to our generation, doesn't it" or something. Because Haru would be in her 20s and surely grew up in the aftermath of Japan's economic collapse in 1991.

@ilikepi31415 for that comment. The raw literally said doesn't ring a bell. We're assuming Haru is in her early 20s and the story starts in 2018 so that would make her growing up in a generation slightly ahead of the generation which was directly affected bt the Burst Bubble in 1991.

So that Basho haiku is from the Oku-no-hosomichi where he toured across the Tohoku. That one specifically is about a visit to Hiraiizumi, (recently listed as World Heritage), the site of a ruined capital that briefly rivalled Kyoto in wealth and power. Only a couple of temples remain.

The poem is also used after the climactic final race in Initial D which is a moment that hits hard but is also so goofy
