They've got all this buildup for Lycia as the FL of the story, but they've also got the duke's daughter Fiona in the wings ready to appear in the academy arc. Is it supposed to become a harem story? Trying to make it a love rival seems like it'll fail on arrival with all the focus Lycia's had so far.

I have been thinking baron Lezard is preparing Len to be the next baron. If he hasn't got other children than Lycia, it's all the more important for him to have a good, suitable man to be her husband. It wouldn't be as important (though still obviously important) if he had a son to be the next baron, but since he has only one child, Lycia, it does pay off to be extremely selective about the husband. A son he might expect to follow in his footsteps, but a man from elsewhere could have grown up with totally different values and no particular love for the fiefdom. Now Len is growing up under Lezard's very eyes, and showing deep love for the land, so Lezard would need to be a fool not to consider it. There's obviously loss of prestige since Len isn't from a higher position than a son of a knight, but knighthood is still petty nobility, so it shouldn't be totally out of the question even in the eyes of other nobles of the kingdom, especially considering Len's considerable personal prowess.

Not to mention Lezard must have noticed Lycia is in love with Len, and Len obviously considers Lycia extremely precious, willing to risk his life to save her and also going out of his way, through much trouble, to find such a rare birthday gift to her. Yet Len never actually tries to suggest anything to Lezard, nor is he wooing Lycia. You might interpret that as lacking ambition, but whether that's negative or not for a noble is a matter of personal taste. I reckon Lezard considers that a good sign, instead, Lycia being a saintess and everything.

This definitely a cut above most of the other manga in its genre. Great art, world building and things build to a gradual crescendo rather than being brought up and resolved in one 15 page chapter. Looking forward to more!

Seriously, if this became another "Elf Tensei Kara no Cheat Kenkokuki" i'm droping it in a heart beat. Author had such a great momont for the kiss, but i guess if we went that route, author woudn't be able to introduce stupid harem tag.

So in short. Author started great, but then fucked up big time. (MC) yuong elf, has a childhood friend (FMC). They are all lovey dovey, he tells her she is his only one and tells her that he will ask her to marry him in the future. Later they met there other childhood friend, beast girl (BG). He helps her and later cheats with her on his childhood friend, who is at the time is his girlfriend. They both lose there virginity to each other. Next morning he realised what he has done and tels about it to his girlfriend. She is pissed, readers are pissed, manga rank drops from 9 to 6. He comes back to beast girl and stays at her place. Next day his girlfriend comes to them says she wants to be with them, forgives them, asks for forgiveness, readers are more pissed. Few chapters later manga got axed. Short and an instructive story.

It was a WN and/or LN originally, & I think the manga adaptation came quite a bit of time after the story first released. I was keeping up w/ the WN back in the day (back before I kinda dropped WN/LNs from my primary entertainment menu) & it at least went noticeably beyond where the manga stopped. At minimum, it went on to cover the war/battles that the last ch of the manga serves as the kick-off point to.

I can't recall how much further I read than that (& thus I admittedly don't know how much longer it went after the manga's cutoff), but I mostly bring this up to say that the mangaka wasn't the original author of that story, & whoever decided this would get an adaptation KNEW that was going to happen, so if it got axed bc of those events it means someone up the chain of command made a bad decision, not whoever was penning the manga version.
