Dude has played the game, so wouldn't he know something of that future? The original Ren obviously didn't stick to a little, remote village, as otherwise he would have had no role in the game story. Something changed, making Ren who he was in the game, despite having those same loving parents.

Issue is third game didn't come out and supposed knowledge of the character is he may be the mastermind and the heroes go after him. It's entirely possible he didn't kill the saint but was the only one there when she died
