I wonder about the sequel, without Watase Mitsuru's premise serving as a sort of thread that holds the whole thing together. Well, guess we'll see it when we see it.

The sequel's still ongoing with 21 chapters currently. It has a much darker tone than the original.
Some major differences:

• Naoki's a broken shell of his former self
• More of a mystery vibe, a lot of outside detective work involving death rower crimes
• Tighter story pace, fewer redundant flashbacks
• Seems to philosophize more about whether humans are inherently good or evil rather than the correctness of the death penalty
• Less sausagefest

Oh wow, there's a sequel? I did look up the author page on bakaupdates but just a glimpse, i thought that work of his during 2018 was his last one. But seems like it was since 2021 that a sequel was made. Sad to hear that Naoki's a broken shell of his former self, guess it made some sense that he is since we learn he resolves himself to not cry but being sad sometimes is okay.

Back to the point, I want to comment more on the series but got completely side tracked. Main volumes had their last 3 chapters quite rushed but I think I appreciate those more now that I've read the extra volume.

Main cast just has more women in general. Hard to say if Naoki will ever move on, he's still single 10 years after executing Watase. Man hasn't gotten laid in like 18 years
