i understand asami's point about why revenge killing is wrong, and i somewhat agree. however i feel she puts too much faith is society. like in a way the death penalty is a form of revenge killing, but in a way that keeps the people who want revenge hand's clean of blood. however who gets it and who doesn't isn't always fair. if the man who killed watase's family and attempted to kill him had gotten the death penalty, watase would have never done his crime. but instead he got about a decade and was released back into society where CONTINUED to try to harm people. like his mother in law said, his daughter would have never been killed if he wasn't trying to pimp her out for money. however they felt the one who's crime was in response of vile man they let back into world was deserving of a greater punishment and that's not fair at all. they are only going so hard on watase to make a point to everyone that even if the system is unfair and let's people down. you as an individual still have no right to take matters into your own hands. stand against it and you will be made to suffer ten times over

the lawyer is such an interesting character cuz like i said before. if the killer of watase's family hadn't got such a light sentence, watase's crime would have never taken place, and the poor little girl would never been caught up in all of this. so the lawyer who played a huge role in all this forever has to carry the guilt of doing/contributing to something irreversible just like the inmates and just like nao will in the future
