It's very funny though that she was absolutely going to let Atil get killed for standing Lilyca up only to think better of it at the last second and run screaming to the Emperor.

I feel like originally, he didn't get killed in that attack while he was alone. Also, it probably wouldn't have been that day since the attack only happened since the dude had an opportunity to get to them while they were isolated. Regardless, I doubt that she would have let him get killed since she is trying to create a better future.

She's not though! Lydia isn't generically interested in making the world a better place she is - perhaps was - only interested in making things better for Lilyca.

The occlusion of her motivations outside of slight insights is part of what makes this comic so good.
