I actually really appreciate that the "weak hero" is not just senselessly weak, and the story rides on that premise.
There was a bunch of stuff I'd rather be completely thrown out about his character, but I overall like the idea that, above all, the actual desire and proactivity to protect others is what actually makes him a Hero, not just "big powah big destiny".

It's left to be seen if the story takes it in a proper direction, and does not just stagnate with the hero talking big, but ending up being pathetic 90% of the time.

Hmmm, gotta reserve my judgement for this one. I know he's been inactive for twenty years, but surely he wouldn't be that pathetic?
