If you don't have the capacity to put out TLs in a consistent manner, then focusing on a lower number of them is far better than "for some reason" managing to reliably drop TLs as soon as someone else drops the same series within a few days.
Its a pattern that has become way too common to seem like a mere coincidence to many, and its getting pretty tiresome. If someone is willing to TL another series because you take too long, let them keep working on it and focus on the others.
If anything it discourages some people to get into doing TLs if one group "claims" so many series like that. Kirei has added more series not less over the past couple years. This isn't something unreasonable at all, and again, it frees them up to focus on other works more reliably.
I don't disagree with you, it would be nice to have smaller groups focusing on less series with higher quality translations but that's just not that common. Most groups don't focus on a small batch of series and very few are consistent across all that they translate release wise.
I was just stating how I've seen translations working for the last few years, the only series nowadays that get multiple timely translations on a weekly basis are really popular manhwa. A lot of japanese series are available online relatively affordably, the most popular series can be read weekly within a few days of the japanese releases for free. Most of the series being worked on from what I see are less mainstream with a limited availability if at all or weeks to months behind the japanese release.
The smaller scale translations tend to be done for passion, bigger groups tend to pay translators/cleaners etc and so need ads/patreon/kofi/donations. That's why you get people that will pick up series for those things specifically.
I don't see this changing much and as far as I see it waiting a few months for translations isn't great, paying for an official translation is fine, it'd be great if it was a simulpub but very few series have that honour and this series most certainly wouldn't get it since there isn't an official english release yet anyhow. Decent translations keeping up with the japanese chapters would be nice, quality translations that I wait for are just fine too.
I think if people want to take over series or contribute they can ask and always have been able to. I feel like that's been a general thing in translating for a while which is why you get groups team up on projects, sniping has always been frowned upon but also cheered on when a series has been dropped or is behind. Since what happened with cracktorio a while back the series isn't dropped clearly so this dude could've asked right? Honestly having read his translation I'd prefer waiting on Kirei anyhow.
