The joke unfortunately works better in Japanese. It says "hipparidako", literally "stretched octopus". An idiom that means "popular and in-demand", like multiple people all pulling on a different tentacle of an octopus.

So it's less randumb than it appears. But translator notes are the death of comedy ¯\(ツ)/¯
