for the cape: weird RPG gear is the most powerful. Remember that. Especially the joke items like the lvl 999 party hat or smiley face of immortality.

Secondly, Gon's fighting style seems to be overwhelming offense, since his sword magic seems to be limitless (so far), hence the lack of armor or defence (he likely would favor mobility, either via flying sword movements or just regular dodging tactics without heavy armor).
