I hope no one will take this chapter the wrong way and think that Samamiya is trying to justify Tokisaka's actions. I personally think that this chapter shows how unstable mental health and hard life circumstances can change and influence people in the wrong way. This chapter just shows Tokisaka's backstory, why he acts like he acts and why he makes certain decisions. Anyways, I hope y'all liked the chapter💘

With how much this manga focuses on themes of changing yourself, for yourself, for others, or because of others, Tokisaka feels to me like an example of deluding oneself into thinking they've changed. Instead, his decisions directly perpetuate his behavior and the behaviors of those that bullied him. The catalyst here isn't suddenly shifting his color; instead his one-sided thinking remains the same murky hue after this interaction shatters all of his selfish projections.

Oh wow, so this asshole is an even bigger piece of shit than I thought. All because a middle school girl was a little mean to him, he goes and pulls all this shit?! What a loser!

It’s so interesting to think about how many events throughout this manga have been a direct result of Tokisaka’s actions. Despite going off of the deep end and becoming a complete pain, his early mindset is incredibly realistic for someone in his position. “Because only I, in this world, understand Sakura-San.” Pretentious may not be the right word for it, but that idea of false understanding many people take on when they have an interest in someone is depicted so well here.
Even the events after the fact are so reminiscent of what it’s like to be stuck in a state of desperation, clinging onto whatever you can while still acknowledging that what you’re doing is desperate.
Sakura giving in and replying after her initial reluctance to respond to the message is so sad. This manga is so great at depicting what it’s like to be stuck in an emotional slump, and it hits home every single time.

(And now this chapter has me hoping Tokisaka’s on the volume 6 cover, lol).

What? No, poor Aoi! Unhinged psychopaths to the right, abusive delusionists to the left, and murderous bullies who hold grudges from grade school behind. He was right that this school is hell for him! Hope he's okay.
