I'm glad he felt guilty, I think that kind of thing is high betrayal. Especially coming from your brother. Then again it's not clear if it was like an arranged marriage type of thing. Not that it's a good excuse or anything.
Implication here is that the guy feels guilty over his brother's passing. It's like his brother died heartbroken that his only family moved away. This stuff is utterly tragic.
