I'm not sure that this example is particularly relevant to the topic of conversation given that the character in question seems to have an aversion -- rather than an attraction -- to the former villain. More abuse to someone who does not like abuse isn't going to warm them up.

What really puts me off is how easily the MC accepts a world with slavery. He seems utterly fine with the idea that these three women have to obey him or face punishment/death. It doesn't even seem to occur to him to see if there are anti-slavery/emancipation movements that he, coming from a noble family, could support or, at the very least, establish. And if you think, well, that's not the point of the manga; my response is, don't include slavery if you aren't prepared to explore the consequences.

It's a cultural thing. The Japanese have a tradition of using repetitive formats. There are TV shows that have gone on for decades retelling the same story over and over and over again.
