That's the trope.
We have a tsundere princess and it is now foreshadowing the coming of a masochist knight and likely a yandere saint.
Dumb/Shallow Harem MCs allow/enable the characters around them to develop the overall story with very little effort. It also gives more "room" for plug-and-play then forget side characters that can be rotated in and out for event advancement.
Complex MCs only become harder and harder to work overtime with because the writer will eventually hit a wall with them... or because the readers can't process/relate to them and eventually lose interest.

The mc fits the "bumbling ijit" trope a little too well for my taste. He's a Japanese, magical, cartooned version of a Mr. Bean, which, just as it sounds, carries no appealing factors at all. Don't think I'll be able to enjoy this one. I tried, though🫡
