I think it was just framed poorly, it seems Mimir is the one who's been stealing secrets, since he's known across nations for this act. Meanwhile, Ars escaped today I presume, so it's impossible that it'd be talking about him, he was isolated and hidden for 10 years and has had no chance to make himself known to anyone, let alone entire governmentsHuh? What? The mc was stuck in the tower using his hearing gift so how do people know that someone was stealing their secrets? I hope I’m just dumb and not understanding what they are talking about otherwise, the plot of this makes zero sense.
Above all - MC is SEARCHING for Mimir. He wouldn't do that if he WAS Mimir, right?Seems like a bullshit twist, MC was sealed in a tower and never left, he used his hearing to learn chants used in his range, but he wasn't going around using them, is a completely illogical way to twist the conversation, the elf had no reason to connect MC to that guy, the father even thinking they could be the same person for one second makes even less sense, I think the author just wanted to bring up that name as someone going around stealing magic secrets.
Even the reports of MC helping the princess doesn't make sense as the witness (guards) were beaten black and blue and left unconscious, and MC is a unknown dude, again, incredibly bullshit twist, unless the manga adaptation cut on a lot of stuff and in the novel MC destroyed half the castle when leaving, left the kidnappers healthy and proclaimed his identity to them.
I see where you are going but I stay on the latter part of this chapter being dumb as they forced a connection with someone stealing magic around the world, when the only thing they know of MC is that his gift is "hearing", they don't know what he can do and the report about him helping the princess escape is weird because how did the guards knew it was him when he was kept hidden from the world?Above all - MC is SEARCHING for Mimir. More likely Mimir has the gift of "Sight" or "Farsight" (or "Reading") just like MC has the one of "Hearing" (so Mimir is spying by being able to read anything anywhere in the world and has been gathering secrets that way.
(Mimir in mythology lived at one root of the World Tree, from whence he would spy the entire world - until he got decapitated and his head merely used as a repository of wisdom afterwards.)
Well, the guards got his name, and the secret police were probably aware of him existing all along (I mean, someone had to identify his gift, some maids must have brought him food etc.), or at least after his escape.I see where you are going but I stay on the latter part of this chapter being dumb as they forced a connection with someone stealing magic around the world, when the only thing they know of MC is that his gift is "hearing", they don't know what he can do and the report about him helping the princess escape is weird because how did the guards knew it was him when he was kept hidden from the world?
That connects back to the stupidity of forcing the label of Mimir on him as even if they can suspect MC gift made him able to learn magic from a distance it doesn't change how he was sealed in the tower, they must know someone stole secret spell because it was witnessed, how can the author even try to force MC in that role when the people in the castle had kept him prisoner for years and knew where he was?
This whole second half made no sense and is very poor writing at best.
And if they know that someone was stealing magic when keeping their identity hidden is absurd to say MC is the same person when is going around withotu even a cloak.
This chapter is unexcusable, it was created just so the bad guys have a motive to create a hunting pack and send it after MC.
That works, as you said the elf already knew of the family secret and how they were ashamed of him, but that even means he knew MC never left the castle, if he did in fact get contacted by a spy in the castle that reported when MC left it would still not make him match with mimir they are hunting.Well, the guards got his name, and the secret police were probably aware of him existing all along (I mean, someone had to identify his gift, some maids must have brought him food etc.), or at least after his escape.
The secret police people connecting him with Mimir is the far-fetched thing, but they might just have presented that as a threat (without actually believing it) to get cooperation from the dad.
True, but as long as it can be forced into a semblance of a plot, it's still better than when it's completely wild.We had to force logic to excuse this plot, is still bad.
