Theme this time is "Manga-Music Matchup".
Rules:
- To provide
the appearance ofimpartiality, none of the top four finishers in Music Tournament 5 are allowed to enter this tournament. However, they are encouraged to make disparaging remarks about the entries (and entrants) if they feel this will sway voting. (Basically Statler and Waldorf and Pando and Panda... and no, I'm not telling you which one's Statler and which one's Waldorf.) - Pick a manga (manhua/manhwa/whatever) currently readable on MangaDex that you want to encourage people to read. Ideally this would be something lesser known, but as long as it’s something people can read here, it’s okay.
- Pick a piece of music (ten minutes or less – no really long jam band cuts or symphonic works, please) you think matches the manga. This could be because it would work as an opening/closing song if there was ever an anime made, or sums up one of the main characters, or just has the same vibe as the manga. DON’T pick a piece that was actually used in an anime/audio drama/etc., if one was made from the work, and DON’T pick a piece that gets referenced/name-dropped/quoted in the work (so if you pick TGSWIIWAGAA as your manga… good luck with that).
- Once entries open, to enter, post these three things in a comment:
- a link to the title page for the manga on MD
- a link to/image of a sample chapter/page that you think illustrates the relationship between the manga and the music to someone unfamiliar with the manga
- a link to the music you’ve chosen
- All three items listed in #4 should be publicly available – no paywalls or registrations needed, please. (Yes, YouTube's age and region bullshit may be an issue - do what you can to avoid that, and we'll see what we can do to work around it if it's an issue.)
- One entry per user.
- Once entries close, I’ll work up a bracket and then start posting pairs of entries. There will be 48 hours to vote for your choice from each pair.
- Voting will be done directly in the comments. Winners will progress to the next round.
- Ties will be broken by yours truly, possibly with assistance from the other three top finishers from Music Tournament 5 as needed/required/forced.
Timeline (all times U.S. Central-ish):
- Entries will open the evening of September 8th, and close the evening of September 15th.
- First matchup will be posted within a day or so of entries closing, depending on how long it takes to build out the bracket.
- Matchups will be open for voting for 48 hours from posting.
- Matchups will be posted sequentially, so only one will be open for voting at a time.
- Tournament will proceed as swiftly as is reasonably possible, with a day or two between rounds - this one should be quick, and no fake-out rounds.
- IDEALLY you should vote for the better manga-music matchup, but it's your vote, so if you want to pick the manga/music you like better instead, I'm not going to stop you. (We all know about 75% of the regulars have garbage taste anyway.)
