I would rather not bring up prices of medical attention in the USA, since they are quite famous for being absurd :)

But on the topic, I would say that prices of Merii is actually incredibly cheap. Cause she grow you your own new organs/tissues/etc. There is no need for anti-rejection drugs, no possible complications, etc.

In short, the ability to regenerate your own body is priceless in its own. And regenerate the body after half of it was crushed? 20 mil yen for this is just a bunch of random change in comparison. Even if modern technology could do the same, it still would be more expensive, with much more inferior result.

It always hits me that Merry/Merii not only has one of the most unique and valuable skill as a demon but she also has the power of money.

Yeah, Merii's power is incredible. During the demonitis incident, she even indicated that she could, in extreme need, cut off someone's head and grow them an entirely new body. The ability to completely heal any injury with no aftereffects, no loss of mobility or lingering pain or anything? Absolutely priceless.

Anyway. This chapter just makes me ship Chii-chan and Merii all the more.

Wasn't it brought up slightly after the demon cold incident that there may be demon cell-related side effects from receiving medical treatment from her?

Generally speaking, the demons seem to be really dumb though--Merii's been shown to have been kicked about by other demons before; you'd think that a god-tier healer would be somebody you want on your side as insurance. Even if it comes with the added cost of dealing with (adopting, not killing) Lorem, taking in both of them would be well worth it... I don't think young Lorem would've been uncontrollable to the degree that she'd kill somebody who offered her food and shelter.

...That kind of bad judgement kind of reminds me of this wuxia story where being a female water-user was basically a death sentence by being low DPS and other people could drain your power... until the MC was like, "Pssst. What do you think blood's made of?"

@Gunlord500 It comes up as one of the story arcs around... 2/3rds of the way through in the My Disciple Died Yet Again *Ns.

Looks like there's an MDex listing for the manga, but no chapters available. https://mangadex.org/title/45295/my-apprentice-game-over-again

To further explain the situation (as I recall)...

It's one of those 5-element wuxia stories, and water is mostly for healing and weak attacks, since the other four elements can easily disperse/absorb/overpower it. And it's especially bad for women, because due to the male/female yin/yang thing, a male practitioner can leech it away, making them very desirable for, ah, short-term power levelling (and since high powered figures in wuxia worlds are practically immortal anyways, healing is useless). So, when it turns out that the daughter of one of her friends is a pure water user, she decides to train her and offer up a little tidbit of advice about why water users are OP.

This extra makes it sound like Merii's 23 now? What do we want to put Lorem at, 25?

Well,
if lorem followed along back then, it might have been worse.
