@kurousagi75 I'd say it did in a way but this is just a westerner's view of it. I mean she did have to either quit then an there or do what she did and try to restart from the bottom. Only problem is idol's tend to be young women and she was getting up there in age in comparison to every other girl who joined the many 48's. Now all her friends from her generation are gone, got married, made a career in another form (modeling, fashion, etc) and she's still putting on a schoolgirl outfit dancing to a song she learned 15 years ago.
Meanwhile girls who joined after that event are graduating and moving on, and they'll have better chances at getting CM's, advancements, promotions, etc over her with every day that passes. She may still have a job but the "career" is over.
*edit* Uh maybe forget what I just wrote as I just looked and she's graduating in april next year. So who knows if she'll do porn like some of the lesser known 48's, marry decent and be a housewife, or go full Dana Plato and end up during the 2020 olympics being the last torch bearer and toss herself into the cauldron to start the Olympics since Akimoto is running the group. I can totally see a Japanese version of the Omen happening "I'm doing this for YOU AKIMOTO!"
