If you're pegging things against classical authors like Tolkien, your bar is set way too high. WN authors are literally a minor step up from fanfiction.net authors. You're having a selection bias of cherry picking the creme of the crop and comparing that to barely amateur authors with a totally different publishing/editorial pipeline, if they even have that.

And, FWIW, even "NYT Best Seller" authors can be pretty effing sloppy and I'd argue that some of them have less variety than LN novelists. And that's something.

Not really comparing them per se, but I think they could use a prime example of The Hero's Journey as inspiration.

I'm still waiting for the chapter to show she's STILL an Ice Princess and was faking because she didn't understand why her father is now acting like he is! Basically the SUBVERSION where NO ONE, not the Dark Elf Kunoichi nor her are "FOOLS/FOOLED" and actually DO notice he's "acting out of character" and are FAKING IGNORANCE initially to "better lower MC guard" but now abit confused. with the Daughter even at a point where she wonders if her emotions right now are REAL or she's faking them because she FINALLY got her wish! Her father finally paying attention to her and BEING a father (From the OG Game, she was the ONLY ONE to wish him PEACE IN DEATH as though "finally acknowledging her childish wish that he be a better father and man will forever never happen, but cannot purely hate him because in the end he WAS her father, she just cannot forgive his choices!)

Now on to MC situation, he's noting things are happening differently and that's likely because he underestimated that the black duke MIGHT have spies among his staff (makes sense ALL Noble houses would have a spy or two, only DANGEROUS if you forget who is the spy in the household) and his ACTIONS have started to WORRY the Black Duke (He's using META KNOWLEDGE to get POWERFUL SHIT, Wouldn't it be funny if his daughter ALREADY KNEW she had Ice Magic, but because of MC insistence, she had no choice but to reveal her hidden card, using the "I have low Mana" as an excuse for not majorly using it or more be FORCED to use it as again, TRUMP CARD and she was already working against her father...till MC incarnated as her father and started ACTING as a father should and sabotaging his own PLANS. She's old enough to not be easily FOOLED no matter how much MC tries to ACT as he THINKS the Duke is suppose to act as he's done WAY TOO MANY "out of character" actions for no one who seriously knows the Duke to not notice! There just lowering HIS GUARD and with the old man, having a "even if he's a fake, I prefer the fake over the real deal" moment

Well this is all guess work! The fun is SEEING if I'm correct or wrong in the coming chapters

EDIT FOR THOSE "CONFUSION": This is me writing down my thoughts and presumption, how hard is that to understand? I'm PRESUMING that his daughter is FAKING her "Daddy is finally giving me the love I wanted" cause it feels WAY TOO LATE IN THE GAME for her to just SUDDENLY go back to being a LITTLE GIRL HAPPY TO HAVE HER FATHER'S ATTENTION and the thought came up with the fact he said the Dark Elf Kunoichi was secretly betraying him for the Heroes of the OG Story already. Since his Daughter is suppose to be one of the OG Heroine's who turns on him. I'm presuming she already was against him, it's just his SUDDEN AFFECTION and "becoming the man/father she wanted him to be" out the blue would make her "act like she THINKS he's expecting her to act" just to keep her cover!" (For all she knows, this is just another "TEST" by him!). My other presumptions are because as he said the "Black Duke" his rival is acting differently and implimenting plans that character did in the OG story WAY EARLIER, and since it would be OBVIOUS Noble's would have SPIES in their Rivals homes, he would have found out about his "giving his daughter a POWERFUL ITEM and of course her finding out she has the Ice Element" so went into a panic and started doing a plan that was in progress ALOT SOONER then expected! MC just forgot until the Kunoichi informed him of what the Black Duke was doing in her reports! Remember MC knows he's a MID-BOSS so other then AVOIDING his demise, he has to assure at least the OG Heroes & his daughter will STILL have what they need to beat the latter threats that came AFTER his character's defeat!

It comes from other stories like this one where the Protagonist THINKS their deceiving everyone, only they've been around the "OG them" long enough to know something is up and are just "playing along" till they figure out "what is what/are they faking or just lost their marbles!"

Now is that BETTER EXPLAINED FOR YA!?

It was just so fucking strange. It's not that the anime was bad, it's that the resolution made no fucking sense in the context of the story. Same for Usagi Drop, but it ends at an open ender, so who knows.

Anyhow, this shit is wholsome so far, but.... I do see red flags.

Also mc is still tasteless self insert guy with no personality whatsoever. Well I guess you can call "a normal guy" a personality, but... That's a boring personality. Also I think that all the people that get isekaied and do not bat an eye on this phenomenon by griving over not seeing at least their mother one more time is a bit sociopathic, maybe even psychopathic.

I'm going to be so mad with the author if the daughter doesn't end up with the mc. Author knew exactly what they were doing creating this dynamic. The shower scene in chapter 1 is unnecessary otherwise.

I mean look at her. My heart skipped a beat every time she says father. What a good daughter, it would be even better if she took over her mother's duties.

1. He has memories of both lives, aka he is still partly her father so you can’t make that excuse.
2. Both sets of memories are far older than the 14 year old daughter.

Exactly why the Anime of "Usagi Dropped" stopped before the "Dreaded Time Skip!" Good move on the studios part! It would be on the audience who looked more into the series and realized it continued after that point.....and then have the same reaction you and I had to "the second half" which is "It doesn't exist, that was just the writer making a joke Second half SCENARIO for the Funny! They never MEANT for it to be taken seriously! (Because you LITERALLY can't take that entire mess seriously! Made me HATE the reveal MC aunt wasn't his grandfather's bio daughter, he just took responsibility for her conception to help her Mother who was struggling out, just his LUCK his grandson choose to take custody of her as the rest of his kids were ready to throw her into the "Japanese CPS system!" Now just feels like the writer did that to "open the door for the STUPID Incest Romance, or Inseki I think it was called, where Non-Bio Related Relatives commit Incest with each other!)

And yeah I agree, Kuroneko was the BEST FUCKING CHOICE! It's why for me that series ENDED before it's OWN dreaded time skip! I'm still SHOCKED after losing his mind, the writer was allowed to make ANOTHER series, this time being OPEN with the "I want to F*ck my Sister" from the start LOL. I wonder how that series went, Lost track of it a decade back I believe!

And as for the last part! I believe I ran into a BETTER Manga series with the trope of MC reincarnating as the parent of a Female Character in the fiction they read! It's called "Reincarnated as the Villainess’s Dad — Time to Dote on My Family" NOW THAT ONE was wholesome! He reincarnated as his Villainess Daughter was still young & Innocent and his neglected wife was still in "Wilting" status (not dead from neglect yet) and in the Novel, the MC chastised his former self for neglecting a loving hot wife and wonderful daughter for no good reason, yeah he DOES acknowledge his OG self had "woman issues" (Man was "molested" by an older woman when he was a child that got him alone, he never got over the trauma, so forced to be married and having a DAUGHTER, no wonder he "Ran straight to working 24/7 to avoid them, leading to his family falling apart, wife wilting from neglect, and daughter being fucking BRAINWASHED by a bitch Governess he never even knew was MOCKING HIM while abusing Her and manipulating her into thinking if she became the Perfect Lady, she'll "win his love back" when she knows that's BULLSHIT! But explains WHY his daughter became the Villainess!) His fear of women and his family was SO INFAMOUS that a running Gag is those who "know him" question him on "who are you!" because he's acting EXTREMELY different from how his OG self was! Not a workaholic and a family man (that even got BUSY with his wife who already has another kid on the way!)

And I think there was another where the Mother was dead and daughter still young and grows as the story progresses, but yeah this one I'm mentioning feels like a BETTER written version of this (I think the MC was called "Wolfgang" something) namely NO HINTS of the incest! I think having his daughter QUICKLY act happy and all of that is abit to early, you'd think she'd be abit "cautious" in case this was all a test or something! (Where in the second example, the MC raises his daughter since she was a baby, he reincarnated in to legit spend time with the wife for a Romance NOT to look like he just got dropped into it! Plus the other two examples NEVER HAD THE PROTAG GET A HAREM! At best the second one I mentioned has him about to remarry, If it update, I'll be able to find it on the site I'm reading it and give you a name! I have so many Bookmarks it will be HELL to find it again unlike the first which was updated recently for me to find it quickly)
