Damn. We finally get some confirmed backstory of their disastrous marriage. Sex Ed matters folks, otherwise your grandkid maybe like moe.

One episode left. I can't wait.

Goddamn the whole family is so messed up, and could the mother even be any more disgusting? Go Moe, burn it all down.
To be frank this lessens mother's guilt a lot. Gato and the akemis parents are the idiots here. Gato is an idiot for the origin of whole debacle, being in a relationship with, and later getting a highschool girl pregnant as a 20 yo.( and here I was saying their age difference was minor due to previous exposition!)

And her parents for fucking up an already fucked up situation further by declaring total control over their marriage. Basically cucking gato way before he was actually cucked.

Akemis cheating is basically expected at this point. She was let down by every adult she should've been able to trust from the get go. A headstrong teen mother with a cuck of a husband and controlling parents is a recipe for disaster.
Im sorry but Ken should've been aborted. Simple as that.

Akemi cheating might be expected (debatable, honestly), but it doesn't really absolve her, I don't think.

I'd argue the point is less "who is least/most bad", and more just showing that all of them are fucked up, and that it's a cyclical problem. But at the end of the day, they all still made their choices, and they still have to own them.

If Gotou is a fuck-up, then so is Akemi. Maybe in different ways, for different reasons and to different ends, but neither should be excused for their part in all of this.

And that, honestly, makes the story as a whole more compelling, I think. When there's no "good guys" and everyone's simultaneously a villain and a victim, it becomes more about the story and the actions and the connections if harm, and less about the people themselves. We as the readers get to revel in the melodrama and the intrigue of how the pieces fit together and how everything breaks, when we don't have to spend time fitting the cast into morality molds and categories of good or bad. The story becomes one of actions and consequences, divorced from conceived notions of whether the people involved are worthy or redeemable.

It absolutely does not IMO.

Her only saving grace here is not being the one to push Shunsuke into marriage. Being a cheating whore is still entirely on her. I'd argue this chapter's exposition makes it even worse.

Originally I assumed the hook she had on him boiled down to "stay by my side or lose the cushy job", with a dose of the usual blackmail via kids. Not that great, sure, but this at least made Shunsuke seem just as responsible for being in the shitter, I figured he had the option to walk away and never used it for selfish reasons. Now it turns out the deal was "get cucked or have your whole life, and that of your actual family, deliberately destroyed by someone in a position of great power". Now THAT deal is as uneven as it gets, walking away was not really an option from the start. And there's no way Akemi didn't realize that. Meaning everything she did from the very start was straight up abuse of his extremely vulnerable position, regardless of how they got there. Being a reprehensible, morally bankrupt ape just runs in the family, I guess.

"I never had a choice" MY MAN IN CUCK- YOU IMPREGNATED A MINOR/HIGH SCHOOLER. DID YOU EXPECT YOU ACTIONS WOULD NOT HAVE CONSEQUENCES???? YOU STUPID- KEN ,YOU SHITHEAD LET HIM FUCK HIS DAUGHTER

Had a hook on him???? She was a HIGH SCHOOLER. She didn't know SHT unless she is just as smart/manipulative as Moe when she isn't. Moe is her own type of human being. Now, I agree with the cheating because she had that advantage and told Gto straight up that he could have left but didn't because he wanted a good job. If he wanted freedom so much then he would gladly leave. Yes, the family is rich from a university but it beats having to have a father-in-law tell you that you knocked up his teenage daughter your whole life. Both parents at fault. Different levels at different catagories. Either way, both kids are fucked up because of their baggage

Oh I'm not claiming Shunsuke is blameless here, he dug his own grave on that one. I'm just saying people like Akemi, despicable enough to not only have the man by the balls, but twist them and gloat about it to his face while claiming to be "family", fully deserve that knife.

And no, I'm not gonna fall for that "she was a highschooler" thing. Because a) people don't suddenly get smarter or more responsible right as the clock strikes midnight of their 18th birthday, and b) clearly the pregnancy wasn't by rape or even coercion. Sure the society may consider relationship between 15-18 (JP highschool age) and 20 y.o., uhh, distasteful to put it mildly, but let's not kid ourselves here - it happens everywhere, all the time, by mutual agreement. Legality aside, this particular age gap is small enough to be a nonfactor in a relationship.

ppl are mentioning akemi cheating, but not the domestic abuse she's putting the guy in (tho he does kinda deserve it, but that's already mentioned by everyone already). it might not be physical domestic abuse (tho i remember it also being physical at some point? it's been so long since those chapters where they were still living together), but emotional/mental abuse is also a thing. heck, she even did some shitty planning by letting him think the baby inside her right now is theirs.

Also, I've mentioned the brother being the only sane person in this manga chapters ago, but damn. I was wrong LMAO. Probably the only sane people in this manga are the investigators that are trying to help him cuz damn. No one is going to become happy if they "saved the family" here. Heck, that would only result to someone dying the moment they reunite.

One has to wonder if he truly believes they can fake it 'til they make it. After seeing all that his mother has done, how crazy Moe is, and how broken his dad is, what does he think is going to happen?

Being a cheating whore takes a backseat when the husband you're cheating on was an adult that got a highschool kid pregnant. He failed her by sticking his dick in her, by failing to use protection, by failing to convince her to get an abortion, later failing to standup to akemis father and finally failing to communicate this failure to akemi during their marriage.

If all things go wrong and you find yourself married to a 16-17 yo girl you impregnated, you are responsible for basically coaching her. That's what you get by getting a child with a child as a slightly more mature child.

Since Gato failed all that as the literal adult in the relationship, it's not even surprising that akemi would be inclined to cheating. Cheating happens only after the hurt you will inflict on your relationship is self-rationalized. How can you avoid the self rationalizing giant sitting in the middle called "you got me pregnant as a kid" and "you made me a mother as a kid" ? The sheer resentment she has for losing out her life, both to him and herself for insisting on marriage, is probably the reason for her drug abuse problem.

Ofc akemis reaction is abhorrent, especially towards her kids.

But it's not debatable that a highschool girl impregnated by a 20 yo will have major problems. Especially regarding loyalty unless the adult in the relationship (literally) is one hell of a leader and teacher.
Cheating is not a black or white deal, it's not about the sex most of the time and not even about the person you are cheating with. It's mostly about the person you are cheating on and the relationship between you. The main question that prevents cheating is the potential hurt it will cause on the relationship and person you are cheating on. When the person you are cheating on got you pregnant as a kid and failed you at practically every turn growing up (ew) your rationalization of cheating becomes a tuesday exercise.

He gave her plenty of reasons to resents him and cheating is one hell of a way to enact revenge. Even towards her controlling family, it's a revenge.

That still doesn't absolve her guilt towards her children and her persistence on Gato despite being like 40 yo. But her first bout when she is a young adult is not only expected, it's understandable.

You are supposed make those kind of mistakes as a person dating and fucking around, not as a married mother of one. And the issue is not her mistakes but her being a married mother of one at those ages.

In order to save his family, and stop Moe from becoming more of a murderous psycho he has to take one for the team, and clap his daughter's cheeks.
I've been saying this for the last 10 chapters lol. Gato won't be the first dad fucking his daughter and he at least can claim his daughter definitely is an willing adult lol. Who cares what happens between two consenting adults in their bedroom XD
