do any of you rocket scientist manga understanders wanna try and explain how this ISN'T a trans narrative, at least in some capacity? Because like, it's very clear Xiaoyang's parents are imposing an identity on them that really really doesn't fit. it's a bit more complex than just clothes/expression because the translation leads me to believeit is also their overall behavior too. Especially with the context of how Xiaoen was put up for adoption because she was not born a boy and the rift that has created between the siblings? Like it is poetic justice that the daughter they didn't want is gay, and the boy they thought they had, isn't one (at least by the perception of many). The bond between them not being what their parents want them to be? It's queer siblings caring for each other where their parents failed. I don't understand why/how you would strip the story of that into some sort of "wow femboys have it rough for getting called trans :((" type of whinge.

I'm not sure that anyone is "stripping" anything. There's not much need to make it sound so negative is there? People are working with what's been presented and how the characters identify themselves (which we want, yes?). Xiaoyang, thus far, has presented in a certain way and there's not a lot of information about the total situation yet. Readers can only work with what Xiaoyang seems comfortable with at the moment.

I don't think it's anything more complex than that. Considering how much we're in the dark at the moment, I don't think it makes sense to begin settling into opinions so much so that we're already comfortable calling people out for being "wrong." I'd just let the story progress a bit before we start doing that, although I wish we'd avoid that altogether. Either way Xiaoyang's family situation is terrible, regardless of how Xiaoyang chooses to present.

So, Xiaoen was sent away to Mu couple by her biological parents and adopted a boy(coz Chinese parents preferred having a son than a daughter)but unfortunately for them the boy is gay and loves to dress as a girl. Karma hits them hard.😏

What stops me from straightforwardly saying Xiaoyang is trans is that neither he nor any other characters around him use any pronouns that aren't "he/him". Like - i'd think that Xiaoyen or Xingyuan would call him a girl if he broached the topic. But it's pretty clear that what his parents are doing to him is transphobia, and his struggles to live and present as he wants are relatable to a lot of trans people. So in that sense, it's at least a little bit of a trans narrative. whether he's a trans character... we'll see!
