Her burdens are hardly anything compared to Harold's. Not that she would realise it at this point. Erica has actually got quite a lot of pride, not all of it healthy, leading to a victim complex and hypocrisy. Of course for the story it's excellent she has got flaws, however minor they might be, as she would be a boring character otherwise. Her interactions with Harold wouldn't be nearly as entertaining if she was perfect.
