I think you right. I remember back then when they first encounter, Maria introduce herself as a vampire who wakes up from a coffin and fly them to the city. that's definitely shown Maria as a strong and powerful person over Xiao Lan. but this time Maria looks like a scaredy cat who scared of little ghost, despite Maria herself is a very powerful vampire I like how the author do the variety on their relationship this round and might be interesting to watch. although it's still painful considering only Xiao Lan who doesn't know the truth behind everything......
