In the raws, Xiao Jiu calls her 姐姐 which means big sister. I don't remember if it was explicit, but for me they are both snakes so likely siblings or some common parenthood in their clan. It can be honorific though.

Considering how laid back the setting is, I was surprised the gang made a big deal out of a bird's voice. The comedy of defying gender expectations hits weaker in a queer milieu. Let alone a monster subculture. When the comedy isn't played up, it's bland and borderline preachy for a diverse group to react the exact same way. Not the worst heteronormativity trope, and it's good enough it wasn't mean-spirited, but it was pretty lazy and discordant.

Can't help but notice that narratively, this is kinda weird - so Maria is discovered by the witches which was supposed to be a Big Deal (as big of a deal as this story can muster up anyway, it's not too serious ), but simultaneously they just kinda don't care and go on a random vacation? I trust the author, it was pretty good so far, but this sounds like a bunch of witches ruining their vacation to me

I understand your opinion. From my pov, Maria's boss being the "First Vampire" is also a (very) big deal. That's why Qin Yu's mom isn't trying to rush things (ch155) for the investigation.

Maria & Xiao Lan are pretty safe being on the boss' private island. I don't believe the witches clan'd make a massive raid there haha.

I'm also kinda confused bc I thought they were sisters with all the snake motive
But now that I think about the black haired one is more like a lamia, while the white haired one is more like a gorgon. They would be different specie of "monster", so I think it might be more of a honorific term

I have a big and long rambling about the amnesia curse. I think that curse is intended for the victim and Maria to never meet up again. so after the victim's memories about Maria has been fully erased, there won't be any problem since they won't meet again afterwards. but of course Lan's case is a very different one. no one around her want to be separated with her, especially Maria. this is where the problem begin. especially due to Lan is very sharp and take notice of every single weird things happened around her. why Maria is very familiar and close with everyone around Lan despite Mengmeng claimed that Maria is a new worker at the bar? why Lan never remember when and how she got/bought her smartphone? why she had the purchase history of buying a couple of phone case? why her and Maria's phone case are looks like a couple one? eventually Lan will gather those weird things and use them to ask the source, and found out the amnesia curse.....

I'm still confused about the relationship of the snake women. Since Jiu seems to be so "clingy" to her "big sis" and looks like she really likes her. I mean, I love 'em both, it's just a bit uncomfortable if they're blood related.
