Ugh, so it's a trope where she loved him still but didn't wanna talk to him out of fear of things having changed/fear of rejection/etc? Why the fuck is this such a common problem, COMMUNICATE. He wasted years of his life with his heart hanging to you, least she could've done was give him certainty. Say it if you don't want him sending those letters.

Not checking his mail for three years is just crazy. Moreover, this series is from 2006, which means email and other forms of receiving bills, government communication, etc were still less developed than today. This must mean you don't generally speaking receive anything important via mail in Japan. How does or did it all work there, then? No idea. I suppose one would have needed to live in Japan permanently, at least for a while, to know.
